True love came to me here at Jarvis!

Love can be defined as a feeling, emotion, and a item. Love can be a feeling because on a daily basis when you think of your significant other a warm enriching feeling enters your mind, heart, and soul. Love can be an emotion because when you think physiologically about a significant other it is well instilled in your mind that you deeply truly love that person far beyond your mental capacity. Love can be an item because any one person can be an item of love or a bond trying to focus on one goal. In reference to being an item is the same as being a couple.

I am engaged to the sweetest, prettiest, most intelligent, most elegant, sophisticated, pure, fine, natural, and beautiful woman I have ever met in my life and I feel for her, I have emotions towards her, and we are definitely an item based on pure love. I question myself what is a true love and every person will have their own definition and honestly I do not know what my definition of true love is but I know for a fact that I have met my true love. Sometimes you can't explain your reasoning, but you know for a fact that it is there.

Ebony Wright is the only person that I have ever felt so strongly about. I have never put so much meaning behind the saying "I love you" the way I say it to my fiance, Ebony. She has changed me in ways that I have never thought I could change. She may not have wanted to change me but I changed for the betterance of the relationship. I used to think that I would not find love, but I am glad that I have. I am glad that I didn't see it right away, but it was opened up to me later. As a couple Ebony and I have been through so much but with God's help and his watchful eye he has made it possible. Through all ups and downs, conflict, trials, and tribulations we have been strong and fought through it all. Call it love which it is, but also call it determination. Two people in love and determined to make it work is the most beautiful thing in my eyes. Anyone can give up in life, but if you give up you will never get to see God's result.

EBONY
You are my everything.
You are the love in my heart and the breath in my words
You are forever a part of me as I am a part of you
You can feel what I feel and see what I see
You are there always in my mind, my heart and my soul
You are the love of my life that I can never let go.

This is for my true love.
I know God is first but in my heart you are my everything

Is there adequate parking at Jarvis?

Jarvis Christian College has developed a beautiful new dorm titled the Sebetha Jenkins Living and Learning Center. Extended from the dorm is a grill that is supplied and furnished by Sedexho-Marriott Inc., student mail boxes, and the office of Student Affairs.

The dorm in my opinion is a very substantial mark of change for Jarvis christian college. The only downfall to the LLC is the amount of parking that is alluded for students, faculty, and staff. While in construction of the dorm the students during the 2007-2008 school year had an opportunity to express themselves on issues with the dorm as well as changes they would want to see. Parking was an issue that was mention, although it was never addressed and I know they only wish they would have listened to the students because the students see what the faculty doesn't see.

While in my senior year I have stayed in the LLC and parking is a big issue for me. Not only is it just a big issue for me faculty and staff have to park along the curb in order to get to the office of student affairs because the parking just isn't adequate enough for a dorm and office of its magnitude.

Before I leave the "college with the personal touch" my voice and opinions will be heard and after I graduate my money will not go toward this school until I see a drastic change. With Dr. Jenkins gone and a new President coming in, I expect things to CHANGE. Barack Obama has campaigned on change for America, well I want to be the leader of CHANGE at Jarvis and I hope all the other students will join me on this.

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.
We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek".

2008 or 1984? Will Jarvis ever upgrade?

Jarvis Christian College has been the same since 2005 when I first arrived on campus as it is now. I have been going to the Meyer building for 3 years and it has never changed. The campus still has chalk blackboards which is considered as a older way of written communication to a classroom. Possibly Jarvis can invest in dry erase boards which can leave less the mess on hands and clothes.

Jarvis has not really been exposed to the newer innovations that have developed over the years. In majority of the classrooms there are ceiling projectors that were manufactured in 1991. The way I see it is the older the technology Jarvis has the more it will cost to maintain it. When it comes to repairing older equipment not many electricians practice repairing the older products. They focus on the newer products because they are the products that majority of people and companies are going to invest in.

Living Conditions at the "College with the personal touch"

I have been doing extensive research on Jarvis Christian College as well as Wood County trying to figure out why the College is not county or State regulated. During my sophomore year I became very curious with the health conditions around Jarvis.

In my second year, I didn't want to publish any of my research due to the limited amount of human rights at a private institution. My freshmen, sophomore, and junior year I stayed in Berry Hall, what was supposed to be considered as the Honors Dorms. Unfortunately they were not. Honors can be defined as a special rank or distinction conferred by a university or college. Berry Hall did not constitute those characteristics.

Primarily Berry Hall lacked in the sanitation area. Restrooms were never cleaned and kept up. The showers were covered in fungus and dirt. The janitors did not clean or sanitize the showers at all. The sinks would be covered in food that people would leave after washing their dishes. The mirror was never wiped down and would be covered in marinated toothpaste and shaving cream.

The other conflict of the living conditions were small violations of the fire code. Arm rails to the stairs were disconnected from the ground making it loose and unstable. Sprinkler systems were not functioning properly and were detached from the ceiling. Also the air ducts to the rooms were very clogged with dust and whenever there is dust mold can develope. With the air blowing it could be blowing the dust and mold into the air.

I must truely say that Jarvis has made a large difference since my first three years while in attendance.

Miss Black and Gold Pageant

As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. we had our annual Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant. We had a extremely large turnout, a lot more than what we expected. There were approximately 143 people in the Meyer Auditorium that night. We had 7 beautiful contestants that did an excellent job. Diamond Bridgeman, Diandria Walker, Courtney McIntyre, Darby Crenshaw, Da'Jon Tillis, and Cameasha Orange. The women did such a wonderful job it made it so difficult to determine to the judges who will become the winner. We took time out of our Pageant to announce our 2008-2009 Man and Woman of the year, Mr. Anthony Lewis and Mrs. Rosalind Lewis. When it came down to the judging section of the pageant we had the most difficult situation arise last night we had a tie between two of our contestants. We had to overcome a tie breaker so we asked one more oral formal question. We selected one judge to have the final decision who was well qualified to determine the final decision. The final decision came down to Miss Cameasha Orange as our new 2008-2009 Miss Black and Gold. We will be having Miss Cameasha Orange represent the Theta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. at our state convention in San Antonio, Texas. I am posting this post on December 4, 2008 and 102 years ago Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. was founded.

Jarvis Christian College

Jarvis Christian College is the College that I attend in good old Hawkins, Texas. Hawkins is a very small East Texas town located on U.S. Highway 80 with a population of 1,632. When I first came to Jarvis it was tough because I have been a city boy all my life and going to school in the middle of nowhere made it difficult. Hawkins only has two fast food restaurants(Sonic and Subway) the other fast food restaurants are roughly 20 miles away. The classes are small and the work is not all that challenging. The advantage of the small classes is that you have a closer bond with your professors than you would at a major University. I cannot complain as much as I did my freshmen year because I have begun to get used to the country isolated lifestyle in Hawkins,Texas.
